Welcome to Historic Delano

The Delano Garden

Established in 2007, the Delano Community garden is an "Allotment Garden" which provides space for urban gardeners who have no space of their own.

Plots are assigned and each gardener pays a fee to help pay for the water.

Welcome to the
Delano Community Garden!

April 16 - 22nd

Every garden needs a fence, but we don't want just any fence... we want an Art Fence!

Last year we installed fence posts along the north & east sides of the garden. This spring we will build frames between them and fill the frames with found and recycled objects.

We have plenty of frames available for interested participants to fill in.

Delano Garden Party

Sunday, April 22nd
(Earth Day)
2:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Join us on Earth Day for light refreshments and entertainment to celebrate the completion of our new garden fence.

Community Garden Tours

(Dates to be announced)

Later this fall we will be organizing a few tours of local community gardens. Check back here for further information on the tours.

Container Demonstration Garden

Last year we started to set up a Container Demonstration Garden at West Side Baptist Church in the concrete courtyard which faces west along Seneca. However, we got a late start and the tremendous heat last summer doomed that project from the start. Undaunted by last years set-back, we will be trying once again.

The garden is being created to demonstrate that a garden can be planted almost anywhere by almost anyone. The containers will all be raised high enough above the ground so that they may be tended from a standing or seated position. Rain barrels are being installed to capture water for irrigation. Strategically placed shade cloths will be used against the heat in late summer.
